I have continued to learn how to paint miniatures during lockdown. This may not at first appear to be crafting, but I have found that a lot of the techniques used are transferable. I decided to paint the Wights from ‘The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth’ boardgame. I followed Sorastro’s instructional tutorial<\/a> but I did differ in how I viewed Wights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wanted mine to look like Barrow wights, who had been disturbed and aren’t happy about it. I used the weathering dry brushing technique a lot on their clothes to give a more ancient effect. I also gave the skeletons a cream look. I was not keen on the idea of the glowing eyes and mouth shown in the tutorial video. I have always imagined wights to just have a hint of colour in the eyes. I used neon paint colours on top of a black base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These changes does not mean that the tutorial was not useful. I still used all the techniques taught in it, but created a different look with them. I really enjoyed painting these wights, and I think I succeeded in making them look spooky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
